Steps for Avoiding Wastage of Food in Weddings

The wedding season is just approaching. Most of you would like to make it the talk of the town and for this you might have started the preparation by getting the a stunning wedding invitation, booking a exotic venue and hiring the best wedding planner in the town. You might have carefully selected menu as the food is the most important element in marriage. It’s one element where no compromise can be done.

Definitely, the food menu should be attractive but make sure that there is not much food wastage. It is seen that specially in Indian wedding wastage of food at its peak. There are people in the country who cannot afford to have basic two meals a day. It is essential that you should take measure to avoid wastage of tons of food on your wedding day. Here are pointers to help you out.

Menu Mania:
Guests are coming to marriage to shower their best wishes and blessing on the newlywed. They are not here for a food tasting event. Well it doesn’t mean your menu has to be limited but it also doesn’t imply it should be elaborate. The main course and appetizers should be decided keeping in mind whether the guests are vegetarian or non vegetarian.

RSVP Please!:

It’s a norm that is generally avoided by guests in India. You can request your guests to conform their presence for the ceremony in advance. The last minute additions and cancelations are normal but still you will get an approximate idea of guests attending the event. Pass this information to your caterer ask him to also keep a slight buffer as well.

Soothe taste buds:

It is seen that mostly Indian guests shy away from trying out new dishes. Putting up dishes they have never heard of will only result in wastage of food. Include traditional food like Dal Makhni, Shai Paneer, Butter Chicken, Tonduri Roti and Rice etcetera. Believe us they will enjoy the traditional dishes to the core of their heart. Instead of having elaborate menu focus on food presentation.

Hello Kids!:

You little guests without monitoring will put up lot of items in their plate and later dump it in a bin. It is very important that you keep few items in the menu that kids love. You also need to assign the responsibility of serving the food to waiters or servers. This way you can control the wastage of food.

Smart Staff:

Keep servers behind every dish in wedding buffet to help people with correct size portion. Generally, there are long queue for food and people try to move in fast and in this hurry they don’t keep a check on how much they are putting in their plate. The servers will serve them the right portion. Of course the guests are always welcome for a second round to have the thing that they like a lot.

Use the Leftover:

Don’t throw the leftover instead packet in properly and send it to an NGO. Just make sure you are maintaining hygiene standards. This way you can keep a lavish buffet and still take care of extra food.
